CHECKLIST
WES to WEL readiness checklist
Is your mine ready for Australia’s Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL)?
From 1 December 2026, Workplace Exposure Limits (WEL) replace Workplace Exposure Standards (WES). Duty holders must not exceed them. For mining, quarrying, tunnelling and other heavy industries, that means understanding what has changed and what it means for your site and your workers.
How to use this checklist
Start with the foundations, then test your site against five areas:
- Detect
- Understand
- Predict
- Act
- Demonstrate
Tick each box where the answer is Yes. If you are unsure, leave it unticked. An unticked box is a prompt to check, not a failure.
Work through it with your hygienist, ventilation, environment and operations teams. Your score for each section updates as you go.
This checklist measures how well you can see, understand and respond to exposure conditions.
